SPOKANE, Wash. – A convicted Spokane child sex predator has served his time in jail but won’t be going free any time soon.

Attorney General Bob Ferguson secured the commitment of Daniel Gard to the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island.

Gard will be admitted to the Sexually Violent Predator Unit after a Spokane County judge ruled that he will be civilly committed.

He was scheduled to be released in 2022, but the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) filed a case against him before his release.

Gard was serving his 23-year sentence for the rape of at least 5 confirmed victims.

The victims were all between the ages of 5-10 years old.

He also was serving time for filming several of the assaults. Once he was arrested by police, he also disclosed other victims some as young as 3 years old.

Once Guard was in prison, he was found on multiple occasions possessing sexually explicit material of underage children.

The AGO saw Gard in trial October of 2023, and had to prove Gard suffers from a mental condition that would make him likely to commit another act of sexual violence.

The judge found that Guard had met this burden and had him committed.
