Spokane Arena gears up for NCAA Tournament

SPOKANE, Wash.—The countdown to the highly anticipated Men’s NCAA Tournament at the Spokane Arena is almost up. After months of meticulous preparation, event coordinators are adding the final touches to ensure the tournament’s resounding success.

Matt Meyer, the Director of Entertainment at the Spokane Public Facilities Districts, said this event was years in the making but the final touches all came together just before the buzzer.

“From the floor to the hoops everything’s TV ready. You started looking around the rest of the building and making sure everything else is matching what the focal point of it is,” Meyer said.

However, it was more than center court that got some fresh digs; so did the rest of the arena. New concession options, metal detectors, and faster digital ticketing options are all available to spectators. Meyer said this was all to enhance the fan experience.

“That way we get people in the building quicker, which is key for the turnover between the first and second session because we only have about a half hour 45 minutes to get people back in.”

Meyer told NonStop Local that there is nothing better than the smell of lacquer and leather and seeing the culmination of his team’s hard work at play.

“This is the time. This is us. This is what all of our staff and the team have worked for, and it’s time for us to put the show on.”
