‘Sounded like a gunshot.’ Unbelievable video of a hit and run in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash — The Spokane Police Department (SPD) is investigating a hit-and-run that happened Monday, Mar. 4 around 5 p.m. on E. Sprague Ave. near Becker Buick GMC.

In a video, captured by Jacob Kahler, an employee at the car dealership, you can see a grey Toyota Tundra hitting a Subaru Legacy, destroying the entire rear-end of the car. It then shows the suspect in the truck trying to back off of the car, which takes several attempts, before they drove away.

“It sounded like a gunshot going off so we instantly turned around,” Michael Peterson, an employee at Becker Buick GMC, said.

An SPD public information officer said Tuesday they have a good lead as to who is responsible, but as of 2 p.m. no arrests had been made.

“Oh yeah, could’ve been way worse, way worse,” Peterson said.

In the video, you can see the driver of the Subaru attempt to get out of the car while the driver of the truck tried to back off of the car.

SPD told NonStop Local that the Subaru driver wasn’t injured when officers arrived, but a friend of Subaru driver told us today that she was a little sore on Tuesday.

Unfortunately this isn’t the first time a car has been struck at this location. Kahler told NonStop Local another car hit about four other cars in the same exact location nearly four months ago, but except that time, the driver stuck around and took responsibility.

“Respect to that guy because it didn’t even seem like he wanted to if he could run. He was very apologetic,” Kahler said.

The suspect could be facing up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
