SPOKANE, Wash – The second full day of testimony in the murder re-trial of Richard Aguirre began with former Detective James Lundgren. Lundgren says he was at the crime scene after the murder of Roby Doss in 1986.

“I was told that I would be coming down to the station to interview an individual who had located a deceased person,” said Lundgren.

Det. Lundgren interviewed Rodney Dobson, the man who found Doss’s body near the old Playfair Race Course in Spokane, “He said the leg was stiff, and he didn’t move when he pushed on it.”

Prosecutors revisiting Doss’s death extensively as they work to prove Richard Aguirre was her killer. Meanwhile, the defense pushed back on the investigative practices of the time.

“You did not examine the box car that he had recently been in did you?” Defense Attourny Karen Lindholdt asked.

“No I did not,” Lundgren said

“And you didn’t examine Dobson’s backpack did you?”

“No I did not,” Lundgren said again.

Det. Lundgren also attended Doss’s autopsy, where key observations into the last moments of DDoss’s life were made: “he pointed out three distinct spots on the interior of her head where she had suffered blunt trauma force.”

Carrie Christen, a now-retired Identification Officer with the Spokane County Forensic Unit, says the technology available in 1986 had limitations, “it wasn’t ideal conditions for videotaping for that camera and lighting.”

Video footage of the crime scene was shown the night the murder happened. Christen said they were sent back the following morning, where she says conditions were more ideal, “there was light so we could see what we were doing.”
