Sandpoint Middle School safe to occupy after potential asbestos discovery

SANDPOINT, Idaho — After a water leak led to the potential discovery of asbestos at Sandpoint Middle School, it was found that the school is safe to occupy.

Most piping insulation materials were proven asbestos-free by laboratory analysis. The inspection found one pipe tested had insulation material that was proven to be regulated for asbestos content (regulated-ACM).

“The regulated-ACM was found to be intact and enclosed above the hard-lid ceilings in the inner hallway system, with no exposure or direct access to students and staff,” Annie Kuster, Community Relations Liaison said.

The lab report and air samples indicate clear air circulation throughout the school.
