POST FALLS, Idaho — Rehabilitation Hospital of the Northwest (RHN) is investigating a security breach that stole patients’ information in mid-January.

According to a release from RHN, the hospital was alerted on Feb. 1 that there was unusual activity in its Information Technology (IT) between Jan. 16 and Feb. 4. After an investigation with assistance from a third-party cybersecurity firm, it was confirmed that an unauthorized party had access to patients’ private information.

“While in our IT network, the unauthorized party accessed and acquired files that contain information about certain patients, including their names and one or more of the following: addresses, dates of birth, medical record numbers, health insurance plan member IDs, claims data, diagnosis, and prescription information,” RHN said. “For some patients, this information may have included their Social Security and driver’s license numbers.”

According to RHN, they mailed letters on March 29 to patients whose information could have been stolen.

Those who had their Social Security and driver’s license numbers potentially stolen were offered complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services. Victims also have access to a free incident response line to answer questions they might have.

“For patients whose information was involved in the incident, we recommend reviewing the statements you receive from your health plan and contacting your health insurer immediately if you see services that you did not receive,” RHN said.

If you think your information was involved or have any questions, please call 844-563-2187, Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Eastern Time, except for major U.S. holidays.
