Protesters gather outside Spokane Valley SCRAPS

SPOKANE, Wash. – Protesters taking issue with SCRAPS euthanasia policies gathered in front of the organization’s Spokane Valley location on Monday.

While SCRAPS policy does not authorize the euthanization of animals due to capacity issues, protesters argued that there are still too many deaths at the facility.

“Stop killing,” one protester sign read.

According to the SCRAPS website, the organization only performs euthanasia by necessity when an animal is dangerous to staff and the community.

“Our primary focus remains animal welfare, public safety, enforcement, and compliance with all applicable laws,” SCRAPS said.

SCRAPS is currently under the scrutiny of the Spokane Valley City Council, which has considered ending its contract with the organization.
