President Joe Biden wins Washington Democratic Primary

SPOKANE, Wash. – President Joe Biden has won the Washington State Democratic Primary according to the Associated Press.

The president already clinched the nomination earlier today with his win of Georgia. He has won every single Democratic primary and caucus in 2024 besides American Samoa.

While his Washington primary win was predictable, the margins by which Biden won are significant to political observers attempting to anticipate political trends which could shape the 2024 general election contest.

Several major advocacy organizations across Washington, including the state’s largest labor union, encouraged Democratic voters to select “uncommitted” rather than Biden on their primary ballots in response to ongoing violence in Gaza.

As of the publishing of this article, Biden stands at 86.7 percent of the vote.

Because the last time an incumbent Democratic president was voted upon by Washingtonians was when the state party still used a caucus system, there isn’t relevant data with which to compare Biden’s results to former president Barack Obama’s.

Biden will face the Republican party’s presumed nominee, former president Donald Trump, in the 2024 general election barring an unexpected change in the race.

A Morning Consult poll which measured voter favorability towards Trump and Biden from March 8 to 10 using a sample of 6,300 registered voters found that the Republican candidate has a small lead over Biden.

Now that both candidates are all but assured to be heading to a November contest, Washington voters will have to decide which candidate to choose between if they are interested in voting for one of the two major parties.
