Poll shows most US adults think AI will add to election misinformation in 2024

NEW YORK (AP) — A majority of American adults think artificial intelligence tools will increase the spread of false and misleading information in the 2024 presidential election. That’s one of the findings from a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy. It explores the public’s opinions on the rapidly advancing technology. The poll finds that just 30% of adults have used AI chatbots or image generators and fewer than half have heard or read at least some about AI tools. Yet most adults say they think political candidates using AI for a variety of purposes is a bad idea.
