Police reopen investigation into local tattoo artist sexual assault case

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho — The Coeur d’Alene Police Department is reopening a 2020 case with a report of sexual assault involving a local tattoo artist.

Detectives have recently learned that Daniel Hansen, a 63-year-old man who operated a tattoo studio in Coeur d’Alene, was arrested in Mesa County, Colorado, on sexual assault charges.

CDAPD says the 2020 case could not move forward because the allegation could not be substantiated.

Police are now working with the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to re-examine the 2020 case. Investigators believe there may be additional individuals in the community who were victimized by Hansen between October 2020 and May 2026.

Anyone with information or who believes they may have been a victim is urged to contact Detective Knisley at (208) 666-5739 or aknisley@cdaid.org.
