Major traffic disruptions coming next week to Spokane

Spokane, WASH. — Major traffic disruptions will be coming to two Spokane bridges next week.

The first starts Monday, June 8th on the Greene Street Bridge. Crews are working to preserve the decks of the bridge, which includes replacing deteriorating concrete and repairing or replacing deck joints. The first phase will require southbound Greene Street to be closed with a detour in place and northbound reduced to one lane of traffic. The southbound work is expected to be completed approximately June 26. Northbound work will begin in July.

The Maple Street Bridge will be closed in both directions June 11th-June 25th for a grind and overlay project. Crews will resurface Maple and Walnut Streets between 4th Avenue and the bridge. This will finish a project that was postponed from 2025 due to a labor strike.

The city says closing the bridge for two weeks keeps construction workers safe and minimizes the amount of overall obstruction time. In a release, a spokesperson adds “access to businesses will be maintained and the public is reminded to make the extra effort to support them.”

Drivers are urged to plan ahead, allow for extra time, and be alert for frequent traffic changes.

The maps above explain where detours will be in place.
