SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A beloved Spokane tradition will come to an end this weekend as the Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair holds its “grand finale” at the Spokane County Fairgrounds.
For 24 years, the annual shopping event has drawn thousands of visitors to the fairgrounds every first weekend of June, featuring thoughtfully curated and creatively designed spaces filled with vintage and handmade goods.
Founder Serena Thompson, who started the event in 2002, announced this year marks the end of the popular fair that was once just a small sale inside a neighbors barn. Over the years, the event, has turned into an iconic event many in the community look forward to.
“It has been a great run and I have always been a person who doesn’t like do something till it has been worn out,” Thompson said. “I love the idea of going out on a high note and it just feels like time.”
Thompson says she is incredibly proud of what she has built over more than two decades but feels ready to move on to what lies ahead.
The final Farm Chicks event is expected to be extra special, featuring both new curators and longtime Farm Chicks alumni who are returning for one last event. Thompson works to maintain a diverse group of curators so visitors can experience as much variety as possible throughout the fairgrounds.
The event will run Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fairgrounds located on North Havana Street in Spokane Valley. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased online or with cash only at the gate.
