SPOKANE, Wash. — One resident at an apartment complex on Spokane’s South Hill is displaced following a fire that started in a bedroom Monday morning.

On Nov. 27 at 9:20 a.m., Spokane firefighters were called to an apartment fire at a three-story apartment complex near Tenth Avenue and Walnut Street.

Crews arrived on scene at 9:23 a.m. and saw that the fire had started in a bedroom in apartment #10. The occupant of that unit said that she got her phone and dog out quickly and evacuated the building safely.

Other residents began to see black smoke in the hallways and outside the building. The other nine units at the apartment complex were all able to safely evacuate.

The first units on scene could see visible smoke from the third floor of the building. As more firefighter arrived they promptly extinguished the fire which resulted in significant damage of the affected apartment.

As fire investigators arrived on scene, they found that there was also moderate smoke and water damage to other units in the building and the hallways.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and officials are assessing the habitability of all units.

At least one unit is deemed unhabitable, but it has been reported that all residents in the other 9 units of complex have returned home.

This is an ongoing investigation. Information will be updated as we learn more.
