11-year-old Medical Lake girl dies from gunshot wound to the head after murder-attempted suicide

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — The Spokane County Medical Examiner has determined the cause and manner of death for the 11-year-old girl after what authorities called a murder-attempted suicide.

The medical examiner found that 11-year-old Lily Stolworthy died due to a gunshot wound to the head and ruled the manner of death as a homicide.

Lily died following an altercation with her brother in Medical Lake Sunday night. Detectives say that this deadly incident appears to be a murder/attempted suicide.

This happened near North Prentis Street in Medical Lake around 5 p.m. on Nov. 26. Spokane County deputies arrived at the residence and found Lily in the middle of the road.

She was given medical treatment and transported to the hospital where she died from her life-threatening injuries.

Her brother fled from the scene before deputies arrived. He was found 20 minutes later parked in his car with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was transported to the hospital and remains in critical condition.
