SPOKANE, Wash. — Today over 100 war veterans will fly to Washington D.C. to honor their service and sacrifices. They will also remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

This trip happens twice a year as part of Inland Northwest Honor Flights. Today’s flight will see 105 Vietnam and 4 Korean war veterans making the trip.

Inland Northwest Honor Flight’s mission is to transport Inland Northwest war veterans to Washington D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices.

It is more than just a flight, this is an emotional event for veterans. To support these veterans, guardians and support dogs are provided.

All veterans on this trip will go and visit all the monuments built to honor their sacrifice. What better way to honor them then at our country’s capital.

Veteran guardians are a appointed to veterans who may have a physical or mental condition causing them the inability to make decisions regarding financial matters and/or his or her daily needs.

Guardians will pay for their own trip and be there to look over and support veterans who may need assistance during this emotional event.

The send off ceremony will start at 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 9 at the Alaskan Airlines baggage claim. Veterans will be returning around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 10.

If you or someone you know would like to go on their next trip, you can apply on the Inland Northwest Honor Flight website. Make sure you apply in advance, it sells out quick!

The Inland Northwest Honor Flights rely heavily on donations to help pay for these trips, if you want to support this program go onto their website!
