Moran Prairie neighbors voice safety concerns after second SWAT standoff in three years

SPOKANE, Wash. — Moran Prairie residents are concerned about their safety after a four-hour sheriff’s standoff Friday marked the second time in three years that SWAT teams surrounded the same home.

Jeremy Bausch barricaded himself inside his mother’s home after Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies arrived with an arrest warrant. The standoff disrupted the neighborhood and put nearby Moran Prairie Elementary School in a secure and teach situation, meaning no students or teachers could go in or out of school premises until alerted to do so.

This was the second major incident at the same address. In 2023, Bausch threatened to shoot his mother and fired shots at detectives during another arrest attempt.

The 2023 standoff caused property damage to the neighborhood. One home’s front yard was destroyed after a military vehicle parked on top of it.

During that incident, deputies were trying to arrest Bausch for two domestic violence cases. He barricaded himself inside for hours and eventually shot at detectives.

“I heard shots or something popping, and I was really scared. I was recovering from surgery, but I went as fast as I could inside and that was just very scary,” said Stevie Lambert, a nearby neighbor.

After the 2023 incident, Bausch pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree assault and one count of felony harassment. He received a mental health sentencing alternative in 2024.

Friday’s standoff began when deputies returned to the same home, with a new arrest warrant. Bausch again barricaded himself inside, leading to a four-hour standoff with SWAT teams.

“We were isolated once the police came in and we got the warning on our iPhone, to stay inside. We were isolated and we just looked out our windows and followed the situation and connected with our neighbors via by our iPhones. In terms of what was happening,” said Dan Lambert, who lives two houses away.

Bausch was arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail on assault charges.

“It’s just not an area that you would think would, you know, happening. And to have it happen twice,” Stevie Lambert said.
