SPOKANE, Wash. – A Spokane teen stole a family car to run away and was quickly found before she ran away again that same day.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the teen took a family member’s car to school the morning of Feb. 22. The family reported her as a runaway on Feb. 23 after she had not returned home and hadn’t contacted anyone.

Through the use of a Flock Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR), SCSO was able to locate the car heading toward the Millwood or Spokane Valley area. A traffic stop was conducted, and four additional teens were found in the vehicle.

The missing girl was released back to her family, where SCSO said she ran away again.

This information was forwarded to Child Protection Services. Being a runaway is not illegal in the state of Washington.
