SPOKANE, Wash. – A man who attempted to firebomb and successfully destroyed the Spokane County Democrats office in 2020 was released with no jail time on Thursday.

Yeager pleaded guilty in a federal indictment for burning the building in Jan. 2021. According to the Spokane County Democratic Party, his guilty plea was by reason of temporary insanity. He is a veteran and reportedly suffers from PTSD.

The county party expressed gratitude for the legal and law enforcement systems in resolving the over three-year old case.

“Spokane Democrats, even in the face of threats and acts of violence, continues to support the Democratic form of government and are glad that this attack on democracy is resolved,” the party said.

Yeager has reportedly been on home release for the past three years without incident.

According to the US Government Accountability Office (GAO), incidents of domestic terrorism and attacks on political buildings have been on the rise for the past decade.

Federal policy experts with the Department of Homeland Security and GAO have expressed concern that such incidents have a chilling effect on democratic institutions.
