MARYSVILLE, Wash. — A man was taken into custody in connection to a crash that killed a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper early Saturday morning, our partners at KIRO7 reported.

According to KIRO7, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) confirmed a 32-year-old man from Lynnwood was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for vehicular homicide.

SCSO told KIRO7 the suspect was driving southbound on I-5 and veered off the roadway when he struck the trooper’s patrol car. After hitting the trooper, SCSO said the suspect’s SUV was struck by a van with six people in it. The driver of the van was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; no additional injuries were reported.

The crash occurred around 3 a.m. on March 2, killing trooper Christopher Gadd, 27, of Pasco. Gadd’s death is the 33rd line of duty death for the WSP in the agency’s 103 years of service.

This incident remains an active investigation.
