SPOKANE, Wash. – A man is dead after nine Spokane police officers shot him on Spokane’s South Hill on Wednesday.
Based on preliminary information, the Spokane Police Department (SPD) confirmed they received a call around 6:05 p.m. reporting a man was threatening to kill himself and the others near Stevens and Cliff on Spokane’s South Hill.
When officers arrived on the scene, they located the suspect who had a gun in his hand, according to SPD. Officers commanded the suspect to drop the weapon, but the man refused.
On at least two occasions, the suspect raised his gun at officers; that’s when SPD said nine officers shot at him.
The suspect was hit by the gunfire and was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No one else was injured in this incident.
The Spokane Independent Investigation Response team is investigating this incident.

Various law enforcement agencies are on the scene.
According to a NonStop Local crew on the scene, West Sumner Avenue and West Cliff are currently blocked from Grove to Stevens Street. You are asked to avoid the area.
