SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man this morning for allegedly impeding traffic, attempting to flee and possessing illegal drugs in Spokane Valley.
On April 8, at 6:40 a.m. Spokane Valley Deputies responded to the report of a disorderly male, possibly high or intoxicated, who was yelling at cars near the intersection of North Argonne and East Knox.
Deputies arrived, located the male, and attempted to contact him in a parking lot on the northwest corner of the intersection. The male, later identified as 49-year-old Jason L. Allen, who according to deputies appeared to be acting erratically, said he wasn’t doing anything wrong and told deputies that he didn’t want to talk to them.
Deputies stated that they explained they only wanted to check his welfare but Allen declined again, stating he was fine as he walked away.
The Deputies contacted the employees at a couple of businesses to ensure everything was fine. While talking with an employee, Allen crossed the north and southbound lanes of North Argonne, just south of East Knox, without using the crosswalk at the intersection. He walked in front of and between several vehicles, causing some drivers to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting him.
Deputies activated their police lights after they feared for Allen’s safety and the safety of the drivers in the area.
Allen again entered traffic and crossed the roadway, endangering himself and others.
The deputies stated they exited their patrol vehicle and told Allen to stop, saying he was not free to leave. Deputies say Allen started running north on the sidewalk, with the deputies giving chase.
Deputies were then able to close the distance and arrest Allen.
During a search following his arrest, deputies say they located a pocketknife, a small baggie containing multiple pills (Mexis) believed to contain fentanyl, and a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Allen was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for new charges of Disorderly Conduct, Obstructing, two counts of Knowingly Possessing a Controlled Substance, and his two warrants for Reckless Driving, Obstructing, and Knowingly Possessing a Controlled Substance.
