WALLA WALLA, Wash.-Sharpstein Elementary Principal Maria Garcia announced she is retiring at the end of the school year.

Garcia has spent nearly three decades in the Walla Walla school district, including the past eight as Principal at Sharptstein Elementary.

“Under her leadership, we have seen Sharpstein flourish, achieving milestones in academic performance, developing incredible parent/family partnerships and creating an environment where students and staff alike feel valued, inspired and maintain a strong sense of community and belonging,” said WWSD Superintendent Dr. Wade Smith.

The WWSD will accept applications for the next Sharpstein Principal through April 29 and hopes to have a new Principal hired by mid-May, according to a press release on Garcia’s retirement.
