SPOKANE, Wash. – Lisa Brown had her first day as the Mayor of Spokane Tuesday. Most of the day was focused on moving into the office, decorating and setting up computer passwords.

Brown said she hopes to have a cohesive plan of action for her first 100 days in office very shortly.

“I named a very large transition committee…almost 100 people. They’re working in five groups. And each of those five groups is going to comeback with recommendations for top priorities and early implementation. These are in the areas that you would expect like public safety, like affordable housing and homelessness, but also in some of our key opportunity areas like economic development and what we can be doing to support neighborhoods and communities,” Brown said.

Most of Brown’s staff are holdovers from Nadine Woodward’s administration. However, there are several new employees, including a new communications manager, Erin Hut.

Hut will be taking over for Brian Coddington, whom Brown was clear would not continue on when she took over as mayor.

“Transparency is a really important principal for me. And that means we’ve got to talk about what’s going on even if it’s not good news. People need to hear it. So, external and internal communications is a top priority,” Brown said.

If citizens want to get in touch with her directly, starting Tuesday, the public can contact her on the city’s website.
