SPOKANE, Wash. — On Thursday, mayor-elect Lisa Brown revealed her plans to appoint two Cabinet positions during her first week in office.

Assuming office on Jan. 1, Brown announced her plans to appoint Mike Piccolo as City Attorney and Garret Jones as Interim City Administrator. Piccolo and Jones are set to take their Cabinet positions on Jan. 2.

Mike Piccolo serves as the current assistant city attorney who brings over 30 years of legal experience, according to Lisa Brown’s office. Piccolo is also a longtime public servant, working with David Condon’s and Nadine Woodward’s administrations as mayor.

Garrett Jones, the current interim city administrator, has held many roles with the city, including park director, since 2019.

Brown expressed gratitude for the commitment of the appointed public servants, emphasizing their experience and dedication as assets for Spokane’s progress.

“I am grateful for the willingness of these public servants to serve in these roles as my administration takes shape,” Brown said. “Their experience and commitment to our city will be invaluable as we create a better way for Spokane.”

Additionally, Brown announced her intention to elevate the Director of the Office of Civil Rights, Equity and Inclusion to a Cabinet-level position. Jerrall Haynes, the current director, will remain in his role in this position.

“The work of the Office of Civil Rights, Equity, and Inclusion is integral to all the work being done at the city. For that reason, it is important to immediately elevate the director to a Cabinet-level position,” Brown said.
