SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane has started removing leaves from streets in preparation for the winter season.

Leaf pick-up has started and will continue until the middle of December. Crews will monitor trees throughout the city to determine which area will have leaves beginning to fall.

With these leaves being cleared from the streets, it will help create safer driving conditions as snow and ice appear. It will also help prevent clogged storm drains.

The City’s leaf pick-up service is intended to remove the leaves that are falling naturally, they urge resides to not rake or blow leaves into the street.

Leaves can be placed in green yard or food waste carts. Curbside collection service will pick up these leaves through Dec. 1.For information on this service, contact 311.You can take leaves to the City’s Waste to Energy facility. The cost to dispose of leaves is $60.80 per ton, with a minimum charge of $6.47 for up to 200 pounds, plus a $2.12 self-haul transaction fee per vehicle. The WTE is open from 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily, make sure to bring you ID.
