COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris was not in Idaho when a crash occurred May 16th that a restaurant employee falsely claimed involved the sheriff driving drunk, according to a statement released Friday by the sheriff’s office.
The KCSO says an employee at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers in Coeur d’Alene, gave a viral interview claiming he pulled an intoxicated Sheriff Norris from a crashed red Toyota Tundra.
“Sheriff Norris almost killed me and another employee,” the man said in a subsequent interview.
Lt. Mark Ellis confirmed that Sheriff Norris was not in the state of Idaho when the incident occurred.
The sheriff says he contacted the actual occupant of the crashed vehicle to wish him a full recovery.
The sheriff says he was at his daughter’s high school graduation on Thursday when he learned of the allegations.
“What should have been an evening of celebration at his daughter’s high school graduation event, turned into people asking him if he was recovering from his drunk driving crash,” KCSO wrote in a statement.
It added that no charges have been announced related to the false allegations.
