Kids at Sacred Heart surprised with Halloween goodie bags from Childhood Cancer Coalition

SPOKANE, Wash. – It’s Halloween, and for most kids, that means trick-or-treating or scary movie marathons with friends. Some children, however, can’t join in. They’re busy facing down their worst fears day in and day out, often alone and waiting for friends and family to visit.

For kids on the pediatric oncology and hematology unit at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital, days can be long and lonely, interrupted by needle pokes and lab tests and short visits with the nurses and doctors as the staff makes rounds. In missing out on so much of their childhoods, sometimes all they want is to feel included or loved.

That’s where the Childhood Cancer Coalition comes in. This year, they’ve partnered with The Gap to provide a fun Halloween surprise.

Each care package comes with a Squishmallow, candy, Halloween-themed pens, pencils, rings, temporary tattoos, games, and an activity book.

As a bonus, many of the nurses who deliver these goodie bags will be wearing their Halloween costumes, hopefully bringing smiles to the kids who deserve all the joy these treats can bring and more!

The CCC plans goodie bags and other giveaways all year long. If you’d like to help, there are a number of ways you can lend a hand! In addition to donations, you can volunteer with the CCC, help a family with their shopping list, or be a friend to kids and their families. To learn about these and all the other ways you can pitch in, visit the CCC website!
