SPOKANE, Wash. – This spring, our community is set to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Expo ‘74 with family fun and events lasting for nine weeks. For many, including business owner Cruz Nicacio, the upcoming celebrations bring back so many special memories.

“Spokane never lets us down,” he said. “It is going to be big, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Nicacio owns a unique antique and collectibles shop called Treasure Trove in the Garland District. He has a special section for mementos, photos and other items from when Spokane hosted the World’s Fair.

“It does bring a lot of memories,” he said. “It was an international event in little Spokane!”

Nicacio recalls attending as a child. He says he can’t wait to relive some of that magic during the anniversary celebrations.

“It was basically our own Disneyland,” he said.

The Treasure Trove’s collection of that Disneyland includes pins, stamps, plates, and so much more. He says he feels honored to compile those precious tokens of Spokane history.

“To me, it’s a big deal…and 50 years…that’s really huge,” he said.
