SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane police tracked down the source of threats against local schools to a local youth Friday afternoon, according to a letter sent to parents by Spokane Public Schools.

The threat, which was shared on social media Thursday night, was deemed unfounded early Friday morning. It explicitly warned of violence at a list of schools throughout the district.

In the letter, the district said the child will face consequences for the threats, and the Spokane Police Department is continuing to investigate.

“Our Campus Safety Specialists have been working closely with SPD since we first became aware of the situation, and district personnel will continue to cooperate by providing access and answering questions,” the letter said.

The district thanked those who reported the threats, and reminded community members that they can call 509-354-SAFE (7233) or report any threats by text or email at safeline@spokaneschools.org.
