Invasive plant removal event at Upper Lincoln Park

SPOKANE, Wash.– Do you want to enjoy coffee and donuts with your neighbors and learn about wildlife in Lincoln Park with naturalists? Do you want to pluck invasive weeds to help the park?

Go to The Great Invasive Weed Pluck 2 on Saturday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Upper Lincoln Park in Spokane!

Parking near the Upper Lincoln Park is limited so expect to park in other suggested places and have a bit of a walk.

Shawn Terjeson, a member of Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council says, “People who want to attend should bring gloves, a small weeding tool, a desire for a donut and coffee (sugar free soft drinks for kids) and park on Rockwood or 25th Avenue and hike to the base camp in the upper park.”

The event is being put on by Spokane Urban Nature, Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council, and was made possible by a Donation from Spokane Parks Foundation.

Terjeson, said that this event was created because “two years ago someone saw a lot of an invasive weed in the park, got mad and wrote a grant request to the Spokane Parks Foundation. When it came through, The Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council (The Great Invasive Weed Pluck) and Spokane Urban Nature (Educational Walks) joined together to put on the first very successful pluck last year.”

The schedule includes a lot of fun things:

8 a.m. – Michelle Anderson, Weed Board Field Agent and get to know local flora and your Lincoln Park like never before!8:30 a.m. – Tune into the canopy to listen and look for birds of Lincoln Park with Emily Stark of the Spokane Audubon Society.8:30 and 9:00 a.m. – Theo Goodwin will be doing bird spotting walks in the upper park.9 to 11 a.m.- Join the Great Weed Pluck, get trained on invasive weeds by Spokane County Noxious Weed Board Field Inspectors Thurman Johnson and Michelle Anderson.
