MERIDIAN, Idaho— An operation to halt illegal narcotic transportation throughout Idaho was recently carried out by the Idaho State Police (ISP) Domestic Highway Enforcement (DHE) Team.

In a news release from the ISP on Nov. 19, the 14 members of the DHE was spread throughout the state using the latest intervention techniques to combat emerging criminal trends.

As part of Governor Little’s Esto Perpetua, the DHE Team took part in contacts/traffic stops, drug cases, felony drug charges, fentanyl cases, warrant arrests, trafficking or delivery cases and other corrections.

According to ISP, two young kids were found when their parents were taken into custody for possession of illegal drugs during a traffic stop. The kids had not eaten for 24 hours and were surrounded by illicit drugs in the vehicle they were found in.

DHE worked with Child Protective Services to get care for the children.

Throughout this operation, 1.4 pounds of methamphetamine was seized, as well as 300 fentanyl pills and hidden narcotics, per ISP.

The ISP said that having an emphasis on illegal substance interdiction is essential for enhancing public health, ensuring community safety, protecting youth and mitigating drug-related crimes.

The DHE team is a multi-jurisdictional narcotics task force that takes on local, multi-state and international drug trafficking organizations using multiple law enforcement agencies in Idaho to identify, disrupt, and dismantle the flow of illegal drug transportation.

The operation involved ISP’s District 1 Investigative Unit, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, Rathdrum Police Department, Probation and Parole from the Idaho Department of Corrections (IDOC), and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA).
