Idaho prison escapee and accomplice arrested, reportedly tied to two homicides

TWIN FALLS, Idaho – A man who is suspected of shooting two Idaho Department of Corrections officers and escaping a hospital to avoid being returned to prison has been arrested along with his alleged accomplice.

Nicholas Umphenour and his suspected accomplice Skylar Meade were both taken into police custody at around 2 pm on Thursday.

“There was a short vehicle pursuit and both suspects were taken into custody separately. There were no shots fired,” law enforcement said.

According to Idaho State Police Lieutenant Colonel Sheldon Kelley, Meade and Umphenour were potentially involved in two homicides, one in Nez Perce County and one in Clear Water County.

The investigation into those potential homicides is ongoing.

Meade is a white supremacist gang member who was in the middle of serving a 20 year sentence
