Idaho legislative session focuses on limiting access to books, discouraging LGBTQ+ identity

BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Legislative session wrapped-up on Thursday. The session focused on limiting young people’s access to books and discouraging LGBTQ+ identity.

A landmark policy signed by Governor Brad Little (R) on Tuesday took a firm stance against non-binary identity.

“In human beings, there are two, and only two, sexes,” the bill text said.

The American Medical Association, American Psychological Association and United Nations all recognize non-binary identities.

Republicans in the legislature also successfully passed a bill which will limit books young people are allowed to read. It mirrors similar policies passed around the nation curbing access to LGBTQ+ and Black authors.

The bill was signed by Little on Wednesday.

Now that the state legislative session is over, policymakers can focus on the 2024 general election.
