SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A man is in jail after threatening to assaulting and threatening to kill his girlfriend.

Around 9:25 p.m. on Nov. 3, deputies with the Spokane Valley Police Department responded to a domestic violence call. The victim claimed she had been assaulted, and the suspect, later identified as 45-year-old Lani K. Havaas, was now threatening to stab her.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Havaas had already left. Knowing Havaas possessed multiple knives and possibly a gun, deputies began to search for him.

Through the victim and multiple witness statements, deputies found that Havass pushed the victim and began yelling, “I’ll stab you and kill your family!” Adding, “Try me; I have nothing to lose.” Havass has also made multiple threats to kill law enforcement in the past.

Around 10:30 p.m., Havaas was located on the Appleway Trail, just east of South Pines Road, where he was taken safely into custody. During a search, deputies found a pocketknife, three throwing knives and a realistic-looking BB gun.

Havaas has been booked into the Spokane County Jail for felony harassment-threats to kill. He remains in jail with a $5,000 bond.
