Idaho Department of Health and Welfare assesses gaps in coverage

BOISE, Idaho- The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) is conducting a state-wide survey to identify coverage gaps in behavioral care.

DHW needs assessments allow the department to better direct resources and advise those who are in need of behavioral healthcare for themselves or their families.

The survey, which is open to behavioral health experts and those actively working in the field, is due Feb. 16 and consists of seven questions. It includes inquiries regarding which areas of behavioral health require additional attention, including addiction treatment and family support.

Behavioral health is a particularly important resource in Idaho. The Gem State experienced 441 suicide deaths in 2022, and is ranked 39th in adult mental healthcare access by Mental Health America.

As DHW continues to search for ways to improve behavioral healthcare access, the latest needs assessment will provide another data set for potential improvements.
