Idaho bridge repair season to begin

COEUR D’ALENE, Id. –Drivers on Idaho highways and Interstate 90 will begin to encounter bridge repair work as the Idaho Transportation Department begins its annual maintenance work.

Each year following Memorial Day Weekend, crews begin work to preserve and extend the life of the bridges.

IDT has three categories of projects. The first is the Long Duration Work Zones. It includes projects requiring traffic to be shifted entirely off bridges for crews to work. This year, there are three Long Duration Work zones, the Blue Creek Bay Bridge east of Coeur d’Alene near milepost 20, the Wallace Bridge near milepost 60, and the Mullan Interchange near milepost 68.

The second category is the Short Term Duration Daytime Work Zones. Those are projects expected to last between one and three days. Projects this year include bridges on Highway 3, Highway 58, Highway 5, Highway 95 and Interstate 90 in Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls.

There is also Short Term Duration Nighttime Work Zones. Those projects will be on Interstate 90 at the Idaho/Washington border, Pleasant View, and Spokane Street. Drivers should watch for traffic to be reduced to a single lane with reduced speeds.
