I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass reopens after to icy roads caused multiple spinouts

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass has been reopened.

For both eastbound and westbound traffic, chains are required on all vehicles except all wheel drive and oversized vehicles prohibited.

Eastbound traffic on Snoqualmie Pass is currently closed due to icy roads and multiple spinouts.

Eastbound traffic on I-90 is currently closed at exit 34 near North Bend while westbound traffic is open.

Around 5:40 a.m. on Jan. 17, westbound traffic was closed at exit 106 near Ellensburg, exit 84 near Cle Elum and exit 70 near Easton. But crews were able to clear the road efficiently to open it about 40 minutes later.

According to the Washington Department of Transportation, crews are making good progress clearing up wrecks and spinouts.

Based on a pass report, eastbound traffic is closed as westbound traffic has chain requirements on all vehicles except all wheel drive, oversized vehicles prohibited.

It is currently snowing along the Snoqualmie pass and roads have compact snow and are very icy!

At this time there is no estimated reopening for eastbound traffic on I-90.

WSDOT crews are expecting to receive a foot of snow along Snoqualmie Pass and are not able to estimate reopening for eastbound traffic on I-90 or if chains will be required.
