How to vote on election day in Washington, even if you haven’t registered yet

SPOKANE, Wash. – Haven’t voted, or even registered to vote yet? Despite election day coming up in under 24 hours, if you live in Washington, there’s still time.

To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen who’s lived in Washington since at least Oct. 7 and at least 18 years old. Additionally, those who are currently incarcerated are not eligible.

While online registration ended in October, as long as the polls are still open, you can still register at your local county elections office. On the registration form, you can either provide a Washington State Driver’s License, Washington State ID or the last four digits of your social security number. Those numbers allow the county office to verify your identity.

“If you’ve provided us with a Washington State Driver’s License, we immediately ping up against that database,” Spokane County Auditor Vicky Dalton said. “(If you use) the last four digits of your social security number, we do check against the social security database.”

In Spokane, the county office opens at 7 a.m. on election day and remains open until 8 p.m., and you will be allowed to complete your registration and vote as long as you’re in the door by closing time. Additionally, Spokane Valley’s CenterPlace Regional Event Center is also serving a similar purpose on election day.

Once you get the ballot you can fill it out and drop it off there, or head to any number of Spokane County’s drop boxes.
