SPOKANE, Wash. — Shadle Park High School is currently under “secure and teach” after a stabbing occurred at the school Thursday morning.

According to the Spokane Police Department, the stabbing was reported to officers around 8 a.m.

As law enforcement arrived on scene, a student was quickly taken into custody and is no longer a threat to other students. As of 9:30 a.m., that student was arrested by Spokane police and will be booked into juvenile detention.

One student was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Another student received minor injuries related to stabbing but was not transported to hospital.

Right now, Spokane Public Schools has released that Shadle Park High School is under “secure and teach” while police are on scene investigating the incident.

At this time, staff members do not have an estimated time on when the secure and teach will be lifted.

In an email to Shadle Park parents it states that:

“The school entered Secure and Teach this morning when there was an altercation between two students. Campus safety, law enforcement and emergency services responded quickly to address the situation. No other students or staff were impacted.”

“During Secure and Teach, exterior doors are locked, but normal activities continue inside the building.”

Spokane Public Schools will be holding a press conference at 11 a.m. at their office downtown. We will have a crew at that conference to gather any new information.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Check back for updates.
