SPOKANE, Wash. – The annual Holidays and Heroes hosted by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) helped more than 30 families enjoy a stress-free holiday season.

Holidays and Heroes has been a yearly event in Spokane County for over 20 years, assisting more than 130 families in need. Family’s can be gifted shopping sprees, complete holiday meals, non-perishable foods and more.

On Dec. 2, deputies with SCSO and the Spokane Valley Police Department (SVPD) picked up children from 25 families in marked patrol cars to bring them on a shopping spree to find gifts for family members. During their shopping trip, a secret helper watched for a gift the child would love. All presents were wrapped, and the kids enjoyed a special holiday snack, a visit with Santa and time with deputies and volunteers.

The 25 families were selected from schools in the area. An additional seven families in need received food boxes.

“Judging from the smiles on everyone’s faces, all had a great time, and hopefully, wonderful memories were made of what Christmas and this time of year is all about,” said Corporal Mark Gregory.
