SPOKANE, Wash. – The Garland Theater is closing a 24-year chapter and beginning a new era.

The theatre was sold to a local real estate developer set to take over in the new year.

Jordan Tampien, a real estate developer and partner at 4 Degrees, confirmed the $1.8 million deal, saying it includes the sale of the theater property and business entity and other Garland District properties. Those properties include the buildings that house Vintage Print & Neon and Mark’s Guitar Shop, but the owners will keep ownership of their businesses.

The Garland Theater has been a staple in the Spokane community since 1945. Tampien is buying the historic piece of Spokane history from Katherine Fritchie, who purchased the theater in 1999, according to their website.

Tampien said he plans to keep the current theater operations while enhancing the customer experience but did not reveal specific plans.

Fritchie will continue to operate the theater until the new year.
