Grandfather of 16-year-old murder suspect says ‘he just got lost’ in first court appearance

SPOKANE, Wash. – A 16-year-old involved in the shooting near the Gonzaga campus appeared in court where his grandfather stated that he “had a difficult life.”

The suspect’s grandfather stated, “He (Letchworth) hasn’t had a father, his father was in prison, I tried to fill him that need but he just got lost.”

The suspect, Easton Letchworth, was charged recently as an adult and is facing several accounts of attempted murder, accused of shooting at the other men while fleeing an attempted robber.

The other suspects, 18-year-olds Christopher Gimmaka, Kaden Willoughby and Devin McEwen are facing charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery and assault. McEwen, who drove the car, is also charged with attempting to elude police.
