OLYMPIA, Wash. — Governor Jay Inslee has sent a letter to President Biden requesting federal assistance to help survivors recover from damages incurred by both the Gray and Oregon Road fire.

Both these fires occurred during Aug. 18 – 25, killing two people and destroying more homes than any other fire is state history.

The fires collectively burned over 22,000 acres and destroyed 710 structures, with 366 of those being homes.

Inslee asked the president to assist these wildfire survivors through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Individual Assistance program.

If this is approved, the program would provide financial assistance. It will also provide services to individuals and households who are uninsured necessary expenses and serious needs.

The Governor also requested the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency to assist with debris management and disposal.

$2.5 million have become available from Inslee’s previous emergency assistance fund. Additional funds will also be made available for debris removal from state Department of Commerce emergency response funds.
