SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University and Thrive International have partnered to host a concert for the famous Ukrainian band “DakhaBrakha.”

DakhaBrakha, a Ukrainian folk music group was founded in 2004 by theater director Vladyslav Troitskyi. The group has captivated audiences worldwide with its fusion of Ukrainian folk music and unique performance style.

By infusing traditional melodies with global rhythms, the band has become a cultural ambassador, sharing the rich tapestry of Ukrainian music and culture with audiences around the globe.

Stephen Cummins, Director of the Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center, said, “Building this kind of relationship in our community is core to our mission. We are committed to not only serving the Spokane community as a venue and presenter of performing artists of the highest caliber but also to facilitating spaces for diverse people to engage with art and artists in an inclusive and welcoming environment.”

Thrive International is a non-profit organization that helps refugees and immigrants to thrive and has served many of the approximately 3,000 Ukrainian refugees who arrived in Spokane in 2022.

Expressing gratitude to Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center, Vladimir Kronin, Thrive International’s Cultural Integration Coordinator, said, “Recently the Spokane area has more newly arrived refugees from Ukraine, and it feels special to see events that will attract the Ukrainian population, especially recent refugees.”

“It will be a special moment of connecting with people from the same land, culture, and tradition,” Kronin said. “To see someone that is from your own country, that is here to visit, support, and remind you about your background and culture that is still alive and being promoted in different parts of the world.”

The event will be held at the Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center on March 26 at 7:30 p.m.
