SPOKANE, Wash. – The community was concerned Friday morning due to threats of violence posted on social media directed at Spokane schools. However, investigators have deemed the threats not to be credible.

Out of an abundance of caution, police will increase their presence near schools today.

This is the second instance false threats against schools in the region this week.

Spokane Public Schools released the following statement to SPS staff and families:

Thank you for your support. The safety and well-being of our staff, students, and families is our top priority. The Spokane Police Department has confirmed the threat is not credible.

We continue to condemn this type of behavior that is intended to create fear and panic in our community. SPD will be increasing their presence near schools today to demonstrate a visual display of how we are all working together.

As we’ve stated previously, ALL threats are taken seriously. Whenever we receive notice of a threat, we collaborate with local law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of all students and staff and always operate with an abundance of caution.
