First ballot counts released in Spokane County: Here are the results so far

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Auditor’s Office released the first batch of election results Tuesday evening. NonStop Local KHQ is closely tracking the results for Spokane Mayor, Spokane City Council President, the proposed public safety tax and the initiative to expand the areas where camping is illegal.

Spokane Mayor

In the race for Spokane Mayor, challenger Lisa Brown led incumbent Nadine Woodward 51.51% to 48.01% after the first round of results. The county auditor’s office reported 45,077 votes had been counted but didn’t immediately provide an estimate of the outstanding ballots.

Spokane County City Council President

In the race for Spokane City Council President, Betsy Wilkerson led Kim Plese after the first round of results. The county auditor’s office reported 44,433 votes had been counted.

City of Spokane Prop. 1 (Camping Ban)

Proposition 1 is an initiative to ban camping within 1,000 feet of many public areas, including schools, childcare facilities and parks. As of election night, the initiative was overwhelmingly passing, with 33,597 votes in favor and just 10,976 against.

Spokane County Measure 1 (Public Safety/Jail Tax)

Spokane County Measure 1 is a proposed sales tax of .2% (2 cents for every 10 dollars) to fund public safety priorities, including a new Spokane County Jail. As of election night, the measure was overwhelmingly failing, 57,633 no votes to 34,024 yes votes.
