Fat cat eating rat prompts lockdown at Groff Elementary

MOSES LAKE, Wash. – Students at Groff Elementary School came home with quite the story after a ‘fat cat eating a rat’ prompted a lockdown on Tuesday.

According to the communications and public information officer, Claren McLaughlin, the school was told to lock down around 10:30 a.m. due to a mountain lion in the area. The school followed all protocols and initiated a lockdown, which was quickly changed to a ‘secure the building’ where classes resumed, but students stayed indoors.

The school then learned the alleged mountain lion was a “fat cat eating a rat.”

“While we take all reports seriously, this was the first report we’ve ever had of this nature,” said McLaughlin.

The school’s main priority is keeping students and staff safe. Classes resumed as usual shortly after this incident.
