SPOKANE, Wash. — A family from the Indian Trail neighborhood has been displaced after their house was significantly damaged after a fire on Tuesday evening.

On Nov. 21 around 6:50 p.m., the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) were called to a house fire in the 10100 block on North Fleetwood Drive, in the Indian Trail neighborhood.

The initial call stated that people were evacuating the home. But dispatchers later told firefighters that an adult and two children were trapped inside the home.

As an off-duty SFD chief arrived, neighbors in the area were attempting to help those three people inside.

Two fire engines arrived on scene. The first engine used a fire hose to control the fire in the kitchen. The other fire crews went inside the home to help those trapped inside.

Once inside the home, firefighters rescued several pets and an adult stuck in the building. The two children said to be inside were able to escape and went to a neighbor’s house across the street.

The house was significantly damaged from the fire, especially in the kitchen. But, all occupants of the home were able to escape safely without injury.

An Incident Commander called the Red Cross to help assist the adult, five children and several pets with accommodations.

At this time, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
