Fairchild Air Force Base assembles all black crew in honor of Black History Month

SPOKANE, Wash. – February is Black History Month and Fairchild Airforce base has a unique way to celebrate this year.

They assembled an all-black crew to run a KC-135 incentive flight.

If you don’t already know, incentive flights are used to reward someone for exceptional actions or to recognize them for spectacular performance.

This year they manned a KC-135 Stratotanker with an all-black crew to show and appreciate how far we have come as a nation.

Major Christopher Tobiere with USAF has been serving in the Airforce for 11 years. Tobiere says seeing an all-black crew is extremely rare.

Tobiere has lived all over the world, so to have the privilege to be a part of that experience right here in Spokane gives him hope.

“To talk about something that’s so critical even in 2024 is very inspiring,” said Tobiere. “And it allows people like me and my kids to know that no matter where you are in the nation, we do have people who support you.”

Tobiere is thankful for how Fairchild is celebrating BHM this year and he’s hoping that his story can be an inspiration to people in the future.
