IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — The estranged boyfriend of a missing Bozeman woman admitted to killing her after an argument and feared she would contact law enforcement.

Based on an arrest report of Chris Foiles, Idaho Falls Police Department (IFPD) officers were notified of a suspicious RV parked in the 1000 block of Wardell Avenue. As they approached the RV, they found that it was very similar to the one that belonged to a missing woman out of Bozeman.

34-year-old Megan Stedman was last seen on Dec. 15 in the Bozeman area. The Bozeman Police Department have been searching for her since. Police believe the woman went missing under suspicious circumstances.

On Jan. 12, IFPD knocked on the door of the RV but there was no answer. Montana law enforcement provided information to obtain a search warrant for the RV. While waiting for Montana detectives to arrive, IFPD detectives set up surveillance in an unmarked vehicle.

During surveillance, a sergeant and a detective saw Foiles exit the RV. As they approached him, he stated, “I am Chris Foiles, I killed my girlfriend, she is in the RV.”

They then performed a sweep inside the RV and located a woman’s body in the back of the RV.

That night, Chris Foiles was arrested and was read his Miranda Warning and signed a Miranda waiver. He told law enforcement that the body was Megan Stedman.

He then states that he and Megan arrived in Idaho Falls around Dec. 22.

According to court documents, about two weeks ago, Foiles and Stedman got into an argument. He feared that she was going to call the police and explained to detectives that there was a no contact order between him and Stedman.

Foiles admitted that he “grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Megan in the neck… [then] he intentionally stabbed Megan in the chest with the intent to kill her.”

Once he left Megan in the back of the RV, Foiles said that he heard her using an object to hit the back window. He then admitted to “returning to the back of the RV and stabbed Megan in the upper back several times until she stopped moving.”

After an additional search of the RV, investigators found credit cards belonging to Megan Stedman. Also, a tattoo on the body found in the trailer was similar to the one listed by the Montana authorities describing Stedman.

Chris Foiles was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Jan. 12. He has been transported and booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

Foiles appeared in Bonneville County Magistrate Court Tuesday afternoon and is set to be back in court on Jan. 26 for a preliminary hearing.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Check back for updates.
